Dr Spelman completed her Fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 1993 after obtaining a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of Queensland and four years in general practice.

Dr Spelman is a founder and the current Chair of the Queensland Skin and Cancer Trust and works at the Queensland Institute of Dermatology.

Dr Spelman has been heavily involved in dermatology research and clinical trials as the Principal Investigator at Veracity Clinical Research. This research pioneers new and innovative treatments for her patient’s with complex dermatological conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, chronic plaque psoriasis, basal cell carcinoma and other inflammatory skin disorders.
